Thursday 1st April 2021
Please Note: There in no Zoom
Session today.
The final day before
the holidays – Happy Easter everyone. I have set you a few more
challenges to complete when you can. Enjoy a wonderful break with
your families, make sure you keep safe and we can’t wait to see you
after the holidays.
THE
CRUCIFIXION
Today we will think about the final
part to the story this week. The Crucifixion a really sad but
crucial part of Jesus’ story as we know he died to save us
all.
Take some time to look through the stations of the cross reflections on the Lent page and look at the image for Class 5...
Using a cross template write a pray for someone that you know that has died. Think about the wonderful things that you did together and all the special memories and then write them down on the cross as a way to thank them for being such a special part of your life.
PE
Gymnastics
Here is the next lesson for Gymnastics on Oak
Academy, remember stay safe and have fun.
Dance challenge
If you don’t fancy gymnastics, why don’t you try
the Jersualema Dance challenge? I think St Gerards could do better
than this school – what do you think?
MATHS
Keep practising your times tables
using TTrockstars. I have set you some more work on Mymaths as well
to keep you busy. But please don’t forget to complete your own
games, I can’t wait to play them when we all get back
together.
Wednesday 31st March 2021
As we talked about yesterday, there will NOT be any Zoom Sessions today.
Wow what beautiful weather we are having, please make the most of it. Any activities that we include on our web page can be completed any time. We still want to see what you have completed but do them at a time that is best for you.
Today we would have been making our
special journey around school to celebrate Holy Week. Have a look
at the pictures on the Lent Page on the website, can you recreate
some of the areas in your own home? Perhaps you could use the
pictures to help you imagine walking around school and reflecting
on each part of Jesus’s story.
GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE
Today we focus on the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus had just finished his meal and was very tired and scared. He knew that God had a special plan for him but he wasn’t sure he was strong enough so he went out into the garden and prayed.
Take
some time today to write a prayer to God. Maybe you need to ask for
God’s help to do something, maybe you can pray for others or ask
God for forgiveness for something you have done wrong. Listen to
your heart as you write your prayer and don’t forget to say thank
you to God and finish with Amen.
Make your own Garden scene.
Why
don’t you get outside and have a go at making your own Easter
Garden as you think about the story?
Watch the video to give you an idea. We look
forward to seeing all your creations.
LAST SUPPER
Have a look through the presentation below with
all the different ways that artists have shown the last supper.
Choose your favourite and have a go at creating your own version.
Think about the lesson you learnt yesterday about the size of the
body compared to the head. If you don’t want to draw can you
different types of materials to create a collage?
MATHS
Have another go on
TTrockstars, which times table are you the best at, which one do
you still need to practise. Have a go in the soundcheck area and
see how many you can get right.
Tuesday 30th March 2021
Today we have a special message from Miss Green. She would love to find out more about you all and has asked you to write to her using the class 3 email. Please watch the video to find out more.
REMEMBER ME MATHS
I have put some more times table
activities on Mymaths to help you practise but today I would love
you to design a game to help children in class 2 to practise their
2x 5x or 10x times tables or the bonds to ten. Maybe you could make
a jigsaw matching questions with answers, perhaps you could make a
snap game or a board game like we have in class. Be creative and
have fun.
RE: THE LAST SUPPER
Today we are thinking about the next
part in the story of Jesus, when he had a special meal with his
friends. He wanted them to all remember him by eating the bread and
drinking the wine and we still do this today thousands of years
later.
Jesus chose something that people would remember and that Priests would be able to copy so that millions and millions of people would always remember him, which was a very special thing to do.
As you read the scripture, try to
imagine that you were one of the disciples sat listening to your
best friend. How would you feel? What would you see around you?
What would you hear?
After watching the video and reading the
scripture add another entry into your diary. Make sure you describe
in detail what the room might be like, what Jesus looked like and
how you felt as he spoke.
FLAT BREAD
Have a go at making
your own flat bread at home. All you need is some flour, oil and
water. Read the instructions carefully and get a grown up to help
you cook the bread – it really doesn’t take long to cook. You can
make them into wraps, sandwiches or just eat the bread on its own –
it tastes lovely while still warm. I look forward to seeing your
delicious creations.
ART
This week we would have been looking
in more detail at the pictures of the last supper and creating our
own versions. Today have a practise learning how to draw a human
figure, its quite tricky to get the right proportions but watch the
video and have a go.
Monday 29th March 2021
Zoom Sessions today will be at 9:30 and 2:30
Happy Monday everyone, I hope you have had a wonderful weekend. This week starts with the exciting news that Miss Green is returning after her maternity leave. Unfortunately that means we are going to have to say a fond farewell to Miss Mountain. We would all like to say a huge thank you to Miss Mountain for all her hard work, I know you are all going to miss her. Hopefully, when we are all back in school, we will be able to say a proper goodbye in person but if you would like to send any messages this week please use the class email address.
MARK 10
MISSION
Today they will celebrate Palm Sunday, using the scripture that you looked at last week. Have another look at your diary entry after watching the episode, do you want to add any more information?
RE
REMEMBER ME
Our theme for Holy Week is Remember Me. Today we will look at the beginning of Jesus’s last meal with his friends when he decided that he would wash their feet. This story shows us that although Jesus was a very important person, a king, he wanted everyone to remember that looking after each other and serving others is the most important thing.
Read
through the scripture and watch the short video. How do you think
the disciples felt when Jesus washed their feet? How would you feel
if Fr Des washed your feet? It must have felt really strange for
them but Jesus wanted to share a very important message about
serving other people. What can you do to show that you are helping
or serving others?
Write
down a list of ideas in your book. Think of ideas you can do at
home, at school and for the wider community – we will talk about
them this afternoon.
MATHS
As our theme for this week is Remember
Me we will be looking at maths number facts that it is important to
remember. Today I want to you to start with your times tables. Pick
one that you are not very confident at remembering. (For me it is
the x7 times table.)
Practise it several
times by writing it out on paper, look at the patterns that you can
see. Can you make up a song to help you remember it? Then have a go
on TT rockstars, can you get quicker by practising in different
ways. Get someone to test you to see how quickly you can
answer.
There are lots of songs
that will help you to practise if you type in times table
rap.
EASTER CARDS
Spend some time this week making an Easter card
for your family. There are lots of interesting ideas on the
internet. I have included one design below...
You could make the cross using the computer
programme you used in class with Miss Mountain
(Wordart.com).
Choose the cross template then type in words that really celebrate the sacrifice that Jesus made, for example Love, serve, Servant King, Christ, Lord, Alleluia.
If you cannot access the computer program, try writing the words on the blank crosses using different coloured pens and different size writing.
After you have made your cross think about the background you want to use, this one is using cheerful colours to show that although parts of the Jesus’ story are sad we know that he died to save us all.
PE
It was brilliant to see so many of you
joining in with the PE lesson. Take some time to get some exercise
today, out in the garden if you can. Have lots of fun jumping and
building your controlled sequence but make sure you follow the
safety instructions carefully.
Friday 26th March 2021
Please Note: There will be no Zoom Sessions today.
We have made it to the weekend with quite a bit of sunshine! Hope you are all feeling well and staying safe.
LITERACY
Make sure you have
completed your script. Check the success criteria, look back the
pages from Wednesday, can you make any improvements to make it even
better. Remember to check your spellings and your capital letters
and full stops. Every author always finds a way to make his or her
work even better. Read your script out loud, does it sound like an
argument? If you have someone in your house that you can act with,
put on the play for an audience (maybe you could use
teddies).
MATHS
We will continue to
look at time but today we are thinking about how long it can take
us to do things. Hopefully you will have a little fun working out
whether to measure in seconds, minutes or hours. Perhaps you could
time yourself completing different activities like round the garden
or watching a tv programme?
SCIENCE
We have had a look at the
bones in the human body but today you can find out more information
about the organs in the body. Listen to the lesson and then work
through the worksheet information and quiz below – what will you be
able to teach me on Monday?
REFLECTION TIME
Last week we started to
look at the powerpoint about feelings and what we can do to help
ourselves make better choices. Remember emotions can be really
complicated and mixed up but there are some good things you can to
help yourself feel better. Spend some time today writing down a
list of things you can do when you are feeling fed up, grumpy,
angry or sad. It might be to eat your favourite chocolate bar, talk
to a friend, have a bath, listen to some music, whatever you think
will work for you. Be creative with your list, use pictures as well
as words to make a poster of ideas that anyone else can use. Let’s
see how many interesting ideas we can find.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, get lots of fresh air and stay safe and well. I look forward to seeing you all on the Monday zoom.
Thursday 25th March 2021 - ZOOM Sessions today will be at 9:30 and 2:30
It was really lovely to see so many of you yesterday and it is important that we get some time to talk to each other. Hopefully you will have finished your diary entries from Palm Sunday – please remember to send your finished work to our class email : class3@stgerardsprimary.org
LITERACY
Today is script writing day. Use your
planning to write the argument between Fib and Lucy. Remember to
set the scene at the beginning by writing a sentence showing where
the characters are. The layout is important with the character’s
name clearly at the side next to the words they say. Put your stage
direction in brackets to share how the characters are feeling or
what they are doing. Once you have written it (in your very best
writing) check the steps to success to see if you need to make any
improvements. Maybe you could test your script with someone in your
house to see if it would work.
MATHS
We will try Oak Academy Maths again, hopefully it
is slightly better than listening to me talk for ages! You will
need to look at the clocks carefully to work out the time to the
nearest minute. What types of clocks do you have in your house? Do
they all say the same time? My computer clock is slow, what do you
notice?
PE
Its Thursday so it’s a PE day, make
sure you get some exercise, it will always make you feel better. I
have included a link to gymnastics do help you get more ideas
creating sequences in the hall. Make sure you are careful where you
exercise and follow the instructions.
If you don’t fancy
gymnastics get out into your garden and plan a different fitness
routine that we can share with everyone – make sure you email it to
the class email address.
READING
DETECTIVES
"Skyscrapers"
Read the text out loud at least twice.
Make sure you understand what you are reading, ask a grown up if
there are any words that you are not sure how to say or what they
mean. Then have a go at answering the questions, keep going back to
the text to check your answers. Remember some answers will be easy
to find and some you will have to think about.
Wednesday 24th March 2021 - ZOOM Sessions today will be at 9:30 and 2:30
Hello Class 3 I really did not expect to be setting up work for you at home so soon. Hopefully it will not be for long and everyone will stay safe and healthy. Remember to log on for our zoom meetings at 9:30am and 2:30pm today.
LITERACY
We will continue with preparing our script about the fight between Lucy and Fib. Read through the attached sheets they will give you a few more ideas to add to your planning...
The discussion continues between the two characters until it
becomes a big argument that Sam and Amy start to
hear.
Spend today reading through the ideas and add to
the planning sheet so that you are happy you know exactly what the
two characters will say. Add on your ideas for stage direction too
– maybe you could use a different colour on your planning sheet to
show it.
MATHS
Over the next few days, we will look at time starting with an Oak Academy Lesson use the link button. This is the first time we have used Oak Academy for maths lessons and I would be very interested in what you think. Remember to listen to the teachers instructions carefully. As well as the worksheets and questions throughout the lesson, I have also set you a task on MyMaths so you have plenty to do. There is a link to that at the top of this page.
As always take your time, work through the lesson
before you complete the homework.
GEOGRAPHY
Unfortunately, we will not be able to work on our
group communities for a while so why don’t you have some fun at
home and make your own version? Remember it needs to be community
for the future so be as creative as you like. If you don’t want to
make a whole community maybe you could focus on just one of the
buildings using any materials that you have got around you. Have
some fun.
RE
Next week we will be celebrating Holy Week, a chance to reflect on the last week of Jesus’ life. Some of you will remember the Journey through Holy Week where we visited different classroom for thinking stops – can you remember what was in each classroom?
The
first stop was Palm Sunday, which we will celebrate this weekend.
Read the scripture and watch the video clip. Imagine that you were
in the crowd watching Jesus arrive. How would you feel? What might
you see around you in the noisy crowd? Imagine you were lucky
enough to spend a few minutes meeting Jesus, what would you say to
him? What might he say to you?
Your
task is to use your imagination and write a short diary entry
describing everything that happened and how you felt to be there.
Try to include as much detail as you can.
Tuesday 23rd March 2021
Hello Class
3....
Mrs. Baxter is having a
meeting to find out how long we will be off school. When I know
more, I will update this page.
If we are off school
tomorrow, then ZOOM will be at 9:30 and 2:30, and lessons will be
available on this page.
