Friday 5th March 2021

Your Funday Friday task today is to create a new species of snake.

To create your snake, you can decorate thin strips of paper and then link them together to create a paperchain.

Make your snake as creative as you like; choose which colours you want to use and then create patterns or pictures on each strip of paper.

Have fun creating your snake and give your new species a name!

Thank you for all your hard work and support.

Enjoy your weekend and I’m so pleased to finally say… see you Monday!

For today’s task you will need your explorer thinking caps on! We are going to pretend that we are off on a school trip to the Rainforest. I would like you to think of what activities we will do on our trip.

Think of two things to do in the morning, what we could have for lunch and then two activities to do in the afternoon.

Remember there are lots of different types of wildlife in the Rainforest, long rivers to explore and many different trees and plants. You might want us to feed some of the animals (pick a friendly one), take a boat ride down the river, try climbing trees or go exploring with magnifying glasses!
What we do is up to you!

Today’s topic task is to design a Rainforest house. Remember this week we are thinking about how the Rainforest is different to where we live. So the house you design probably won’t look like the houses we live in.

The Rainforest is full of trees, plants and animals, so you might want to use natural materials to build your house with, for example branches, big leaves or logs.

Yesterday we looked at the weather in the Rainforest and we learnt that there is a lot of rain there! So make sure you design a good shelter or roof for your house to protect you from the rain.

You can be creative and design your ‘house’ however you like; it could even be a treehouse up high or an underground hideaway!

This week we are continuing our Rainforest topic and starting to think about how the Rainforest is different to where we live.

Today we are going to think about the weather in the Rainforest and how it might be different to the type of weather we have here in Rotherham.

Watch the video below as some of the zoo keepers from Chester zoo tell us all about the weather in the Rainforest.

Once you have watched the video, I would like you to make a weather report which shows the weather in the Rainforest and then one to show the weather here in Rotherham.

Think about how cold or hot it might be. How much rain each might get. Will it be cloudy? Windy? Sunny?

Use the template below (or create your own) to draw/write the two weather reports. Or you may want to pretend to be the weather reporter on the television and ask a grown up to record you talking to us about the weather.

Jesus was always kind and showed love to everyone. He was loved by his Father in Heaven and also by Mary and Joseph who he lived with. They taught Jesus how to be kind to others and brought him up to be caring and forgiving.

Who helps you to make good decisions and shows you how to be kind? There might be lots of people – parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters, teachers, friends.

Today I would like you to draw one (or a few) of the people who show you kindness and teach you how to be a caring person. Once you have drawn them, say a little prayer to thank God for these special people.

RE

Last Wednesday in half term, we began the season of Lent. This is a very important time for us as Christians as it is when we prepare for the celebration of Easter.
During the forty days of Lent, we are encouraged to work at growing more like Jesus by caring, sharing and helping. This helps us to think about other people.

Lent is also a special time when we think about Jesus, how he grew in love and we try to grow in love, goodness, kindness and helpfulness like him.
Today I would like you to think of something you can do to grow in kindness or helpfulness – you might choose a job you can do to be helpful at home or maybe there’s a particular toy you can share with your brother or sister to show your kindness.

As Spring is on its way, you may start to see flowers growing when you’re out and about – just like the flowers, it is our time to grow too.
Write your idea down on the flower template below and then decorate it – if you don’t have a printer you can draw your own flower.

The WWF (World wide fund for nature) are asking for our help! They are very worried about the trees being cut down in the rainforest. The animals are losing their habitats (homes) and they want us to help let everyone know what is happening. Are you ready to help?

This half term we are going to learn all about the Rainforests and the animals that live there so that we can help the WWF.

Our first task is to reply to the letter from the WWF and let them know we want to help! Today we are looking at a story from the Bible called, ‘Let the children come to me’.

Jesus loved everyone, he was kind and gentle. Parents and carers brought their children to Jesus for him to bless. Some people thought the children should not be bothering Jesus. But Jesus loved all the children and said, “Let the children come to me.” So, the children gathered round Jesus and loved being with Jesus. Jesus loved the children.

Draw a picture of you and your friends gathering around Jesus to hear some of his stories. Think about what you would ask Jesus if you went to meet him.

We all make mistakes and accidents happen but there’s something very important we have to say if we upset someone else… Sorry. I think that once she thought about what she had done, Goldilocks probably felt very sorry.

I want you to pretend that you are Goldilocks and you want to tell the Three Bears that you are very sorry. Make a ‘sorry ‘card for them, decorate the front and then write them a message inside. MATHS

Funday Friday means there’s no formal lesson today. Instead, I’d like you to go on a number hunt! Explore your house and find as many number ‘4’s as you can. The numbers might be on clocks, devices, packets, boxes, bottles, posters – see how many you can find.

Book of the week task: It’s our last day of ‘Man on the moon’ week. I have really enjoyed seeing all your space themed work this week. The aliens were hiding from Bob all through the story – did you see them?

Today for our Funday Friday task I would like you to design/make an alien mask. You could design it on paper and then cut it out or use some materials you have at home (some cardboard from a cereal box would make a sturdy base for a mask). Be as creative as you can, here are some ideas to help…

This weekend ask your grown up if you can go out in the garden together once it is dark and see if you can spot the moon. Look for any signs of Bob and his rocket and see how many stars you can count in the sky.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone, thank you so much for all the hard work at home and for your support.

Today I want you to think about your daily routine. What is the very first thing you do in the morning? And the next thing? What about in the evening when you’re getting ready for bed, what things do you have to do?

Try to order the things you have to do each day. Below is a set of cards with different tasks on them, you can print and order them or just use the pictures for ideas and either draw your own or write them down. Remember, put each task in the correct order – because we don’t eat our breakfast and then go to bed, that would just be silly!

Today I would like you to think about what you want to thank God for. Mary and Joseph thanked God for their very special baby, Jesus. You might want to thank God for your family, friends, your talents or even being lucky enough to have toys to play with. Say or write your short prayer starting with ‘God, thank you for…..’

Who do you see in the picture?

Why did Mary and Joseph take Jesus to the Temple?
Who were the people that they met?
What did Simeon do?
Why do you think Simeon and Anna were so pleased to meet Jesus?
What did Mary and Joseph do after they left the Temple?

In the story Simeon says that Jesus is the light of the world. When we do kind things and make good choices, our light shines. You could make a cardboard candle using a cardboard roll and some tissue paper or ask a grown up to light a real candle and you could say a prayer together thanking God for Jesus and for all your talents that make you shine.

Another way to thank God is to sing hymns, below is a song all about shining that you could sing.

“Recognising and counting numbers within 8”

Wednesday 6th January 2021

Good morning children I hope you are all well. Even though we can’t all be together in school we can still stay in contact and share what we have been up to.

Starting next Monday we will have a story of the week. Most of our activities throughout the week will be based upon this book.
The class 1 page will be updated daily with different activities for you to work through. When you have completed work you can send a photograph of it to the class email - class1@stgerardsprimary.org

The Early Years framework is largely based around learning through play so some of the activities we set will be practical and hands on. When working with your child on directed activities, aim for them to last between 15 and 30 minutes, with plenty of breaks/play in between.

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday we will also be asking you to complete PE with Joe Wicks - You can find these sessions on his YouTube channel ‘The Body Coach TV’.

To get started today, there are two activities for you to complete.
