Welcome to Class 3's Learning Page (Archive)

Please read this section carefully.

Every day we will be having zoom meetings where we will be teaching you. Monday - Thursday at 9:30 and 2:30. Friday 9:30 and 11:30. It is really important that you try to join these meetings.

You can find the meeting details on the right hand side > > >

Each day we will post the information / worksheets / links and videos that you will need on this page so that you can look at them whenever you need to. We will try our best to make sure that these things don't need printing out - you can just look at them on the screen you are using.

Once you have completed your work, you might be asked to send in a copy for us to look at. You can take a photo of what you have done and send it to us using the class email OR Facebook Messenger. Most parents used this for parents evening so they should have our school accounts saved on their device. If not - the details you need are here on the right > > >

Friday 5th March 2021

I really cannot believe its Friday again. We are so excited to see you all next week. I know the children at school are really looking forward to everyone coming back too.

This morning on zoom we will go through some things for next week and talk about coming back to school.

For today’s Maths you need to complete page 44-45 on solving money problems.

Remember to use a frog line to help you work out how much change you will have. Always hop to the next multiple of 10 or 100.

Maths Questions for today

For today’s writing lesson I would like you to focus on your presentation. Using the writing frame attached or on a plain piece of paper I want you to write up your letter in your very best writing. In your writing I want to see:

• Start your letter with Dear …
• Include ambitious adjectives such as neglected, unloved.
• Include rhetorical questions.
• Include your opinions and give reasons using a complex sentence, using because/so.
• Include a command and warning, for example, ‘If you continue to destroy me I will leave!’
• Check capital letters, full stops, question marks, exclamation marks.

The very best work may be able to go on display when you come back to school next week.

Thursday 4th March 2021

Good morning Class 3. Here are today’s lessons.

On zoom this morning I will go through the method for the problem solving today. You will need a pencil and a ruler if you have one.

Thursday Maths Work

This afternoon we have our PE lesson. Please make sure you take time out to get plenty of exercise, a nice walk, a fitness circuit or Joe Wicks would be good.

Well done for yesterday, it was lovely to hear some of your work, I am really impressed with the vocabulary you are using in your writing. Keep this up!

We have got two lessons to get through again, follow the links below.

Wednesday 3rd March 2021

It is lovely to see all your faces on zoom. It is important that you are working through the work we are set on the website, if you are having problems we can help you just email the class 3 email or re contact us through zoom.

Today there are links to two Oak Academy Lessons. The first you will be practicing your ideas and then in the second you will concentrate on your very best writing. Please take your time and do your very best using the advice the lady gives you. We cannot wait to see you stories when you bring them in next week.

We will continue with the work from yesterday if you have not completed it, if you have then have a look at the task on Mymaths.
Remember you are making the easiest jumps for you along the frogline.

Don’t forget to add them up carefully. Write out the number sentence and look at what you have written – does your answer make sense?

Top Tip – use your bonds to 100 to help you jump to the next pound.

This week is the second week of Lent so we will be looking at two important pieces of scripture, the first is the Beatitudes and the second is the story of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. As you read them think carefully about they mean. Read them out loud to someone in your family, is it different when you say the words instead of reading them? How can you use the stories to inspire yourself or others to a new way of living? What do they tell you about giving?

As you read the story of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane see if you can answer the following questions:

• How did Jesus feel when he got to the garden? What did he do?
• What does this story tell you about Jesus’ generosity?
• Why do you think Jesus took the disciples and why did he ask them to stay awake?
• What do you think about how the disciples behaved and why?
• How do you think he felt when the betrayer arrived with the soldiers?
• How do you think Judas felt?

After you have read through the scripture and answered the questions, take some time to imagine that you are Jesus.

Write a prayer that you could imagine Jesus would you pray to God his father.

Would he be scared? Would he feel angry or would he feel that it was all going to ok? Write it beautifully if you have a nice piece of paper and maybe we can add them to a display next week.

Tuesday 2nd March 2021

Good morning everyone, thank you again with your patience with the morning zoom. Please remember if you cannot hear us properly and do not understand what you need to do – zoom in again later so that we can talk things through.

Today you will be concentrating on working out change. The easiest way is to use the frogline to count up from the amount you have spent to the total amount of the money you have. Hopefully we will be able to talk to each other in the morning but if not have a look at help sheets – remember you jumping up from number to the next and then counting the jumps.

Today you will looking at different ways that you can persuade someone including using rhetorical questions. Make sure you listen carefully to gather lots of different ideas.

This afternoon we will do the groups zooms to allow you time to talk to your friends. You should be starting to design ‘A Place to Call my Own’. To win the competition it needs to be a well-designed community for the future, a place where everyone would want to live. Maybe you community could be saving the environment, perhaps it could be filled with time saving gadgets.

Think carefully about what is important to your group.

Remember to take time to think about the different types of buildings you need to include to make sure you have a good community for the futures. Do you need churches, schools, shops or can you do everything online in your communities?

Log on to talk it through with your friends, be creative, show good teamwork – there could be extra prizes!!

Getting regular fun exercise is especially important at the moment. Take some time today to get some exercise – maybe it could be your own made up circuit of activities, dancing or using a youtube video. Have fun and see if you can include your family in too.

Monday 1st March 2021

Good morning Class 3. We hope you have had a lovely weekend and managed to do something nice in the sunshine with your families. This is hopefully our last week with remote learning. Keep trying your very best; we are so proud of you.

Take some time today to watch this week’s reflection, it is a lovely way to start the week and will help you to understand God’s message during the season of Lent.

At school, we really enjoyed our lesson on Friday where we devised our own characters. Today we will continue with our work on characters with a focus on explaining their feelings. Follow the link below for today’s lesson.

This week we will be refreshing our memories about money. We will start by learning about coins and their value. At home, perhaps you could set up a shop and use coins to add the values together. We are working towards solving problems relating to money, such as working how much change will you have.

We have added a lesson on My Maths for you to have a go at after our lesson on zoom.

In your ‘Working from home books’ we would like you to work on your reading comprehension task ‘Diving Superstar’. At school we would spend three lessons on this so please take your time. First, you need to read through the text and highlight any words/ phrases that you don’t know or don’t fully understand. You can then research those using a dictionary or ‘Google’. Then read through the questions making sure you understand what they are asking you to do. Some questions need you to answer by ‘circling’ a word, copying from the text or ordering facts. Then you can answer the questions.

Friday 26th February 2021

Please note, our internet connection is running slowly today.

There may be disruption to the zoom calls.

Today’s lesson is very exciting. We are going to devise our own characters. I am really looking forward to hearing from you and seeing everyone’s individual ideas. Be as creative as you can!

Image description

For today’s Maths I would like you to log onto My Maths where we will be refreshing what we know about shapes. At home you can find lots of shapes to explore and investigate.

Have a brilliant weekend and a big thank you for a super week.

Thursday 25th February 2021

A big well done to everyone at home for continuing to work even though we are having trouble connecting through Zoom. We are hopeful that today will go well, fingers crossed!

Follow the link for today’s English lesson. I am already excited to see our writing by the end of this unit. We are writing down as many ideas from every lesson at school to help us and we hope at home you are doing the same. Keep adding to these and have them for every lesson.

Today we will continue with problem solving. I have attached a sheet with the problems that I want you to work on. This morning on Zoom we will go through this together.

We are spending a big of time this morning perfecting our handwriting. This is something you could do at home too. You will need a nice sharp pencil, some lined paper (if possible) and a chair so that you can be sat up with your back straight.

Class 3 Handwriting 25-02-21.pdf

Today is PE day with Mrs Burgin. I know this will be a lesson that lots of you will be looking forward to doing when you are back at school. At home remember to keep staying active and do exercise daily. Here is a link for a PE lesson for you to follow.

Wednesday 24th February 2021

Good morning everyone, thank you so much for your patience this week as we have had quite a few challenges with zoom. I have changed the computers over so fingers crossed we will get to speak to you all.

Today we are going back to the Day the Crayons Quit and think about how the author uses persuasive language. Make sure you listen carefully to collect as many ideas as you can.

We have set you another task on MyMaths using your place value knowledge – Greater than Less Than. Please remember to complete the lesson before you do the homework.

LEARNING FOCUS 1: Lent- an opportunity for giving.

Lent starts on Ash Wednesday, the day when Christians go to church and receive ashes in the shape of a Cross on their foreheads. As the ashes are given, the priest/deacon says:

Repent, and believe in the Gospel.
Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.

These words remind Christians that they are beginning a time when they are making a new start by giving themselves to God and others, through prayer, giving up things and doing good for others. During Lent, the Church uses the colour purple, to symbolise repentance and does not use the word Alleluia until Easter. Lent is a time when Christians stop and think about following the example of Jesus. It is a time to grow in goodness.

As you read the information from the Church’s Story pages think about these questions:

Q In what ways what do you think Lent is an opportunity for giving?
Q What will help you stop and think about how you might follow Jesus?
Q What ideas do you have for prayer, giving up and doing good for others during this time?
Q How do you think spending forty days in the desert helped Jesus?

Make a Lenten promise showing how we can give of ourselves to others: e.g. I promise to … during Lent because…

Class 3 - Lenten Promises 24-02-21.pdf

LEARNING FOCUS 2: Parents and children should love and respect one another, as God wants them to do.

Jesus was always trying to help his friends understand how they should live their lives. Here is a parable (that is a story with more than one meaning) about a king passing judgement on his people. This parable can help people change their lives.

As you read the information from God’s Story page 88 think about these questions:

Q Why do you think the people on the king’s right are called good people?
Q How had these people helped the king?

Discuss what it might mean to be hungry, thirsty, a stranger, without proper clothing, ill and in prison today and how can people in these situations be helped?

Think of those who are in need: e.g. refugees, the sick, homeless, etc. Describe some ways in which Christians can give of themselves to enable those in need to live a better life. From the information devise a class action plan for ways in which we can give help to these during Lent.

Tuesday 23rd February 2021

In class we did a fabulous job working out a pattern to find all of the possible numbers. I hope you did just as well at home too.
Today have a go at the maths problems sheet. Some of the questions are easier than others, take your time and make sure you have really answered the questions.

For some great advice, please look at the presentation that I have included below - before you tackle the questions!

Class 3 Maths Sheet for today

We really enjoyed reminding ourselves about the Day the Crayons Quit story. Today’s lesson is a spelling lesson, listen carefully to the advice – remember some of the words might be part of a spelling test.

Today you will be working in your groups to decide how you can design your own brand new community – A Place To Call Our Own.

Think carefully about you see in the World around you know, how could you improve things? Be creative, instead of cars could people fly or teleport? How could houses be improved? Do we need schools and churches to make communities?

Together in your group you will have chance to share your different ideas and then try to draw them. Hopefully, when you are all back into school we will be able to build the communities and will be a competition!

Log on at your group zoom time:

  • Group A 1:10pm -1:20pm
  • Group B 1:25pm – 1:35pm
  • Group C 1:40pm - 1:50pm
  • Group D 1:55pm - 2:05pm

Monday 22nd February 2021

Good Morning everyone and welcome back. I hope you have all had a good break and done something a little bit different over the holidays. As it is Monday, make sure you take time to watch the Mark 10 Mission. The link is at the top of this page.

First job – make sure you have completed all of your story about the Man on the Moon. I know some of you need to finish the most exciting part of the story (the climax) and some of you need to go back and read what you have completed and edit and improve it, do that before you start the next unit.

If you have completed all of the Man on the Moon then have a look at the first session for the Day the Crayons Quit – do any of you recognise the story?

Today we are refreshing our memories about place value and then over the next few days we will be using what we know to problem solve. I have set you a lesson on Mymaths (HTO Place Value), when you have completed it have a look at the problems. In our zoom we will talk about the best ways to work through different styles of problems, make sure you log on at 9:30.

This week we want to make sure all the groups have finished their powerpoints and are ready to share them with the other groups. By learning about other countries and different cultures it can help us to understand the World around us better and when you start to design your own communities it should give you even more ideas.

This afternoon please make sure you log on to talk to your friends in your group to find out how far they have got and what you all need to do next.

  • Group A China -        1:10pm -1-20pm
  • Group B Wales -       1:25pm -1:35pm
  • Group C Denmark -  1:40pm -1:50pm
  • Group D Ireland -     1:55pm – 2:05pm

Spring 2

Friday 12th February 2021

We just want to start by saying a big well done to everyone for this half term. You have all worked extremely hard and have proven how resilient you really are. One more day working hard and then you can enjoy a weeks holiday. Please keep looking after each other at home and have a lovely week.

Today you are going to write your final paragraph from this unit. Keep looking at the success criteria for narrative writing and check that you are including what’s on it to make your writing amazing.

You have learnt so much about telling the time this week. Let’s look today at putting these into real life problems. The key thing to remember is to read the questions carefully and make sure you understand what the question is asking you to do. You could highlight key words and functions in the question.

Yesterday Christopher taught us a lot about how his family celebrate Chinese New Year. I wonder if you can find anything else out about Chinese New Year and think about festivals you enjoy celebrating, I know lots of children at school are excited for Pancake day next Tuesday.

On the school website there is information about a Road Safety project that is happening that you might enjoy taking part in during half term. Click on the main "Classes" page for more information.

Thursday 11th February 2021

Today on zoom I will go through some ways to work out how to solve problems relating to time.

Here are some questions that I would like for you to have a go at after our morning lesson.

Please keep trying at these and I promise you will get better.

Class 3 - Maths Questions 11-02-21.pdf

Keep working through your Oak Academy lessons; I know its getting quite tough now with our writing so if you need to take a break please do. It will really help you if you keep referring back to our ideas in previous lesson.

I want to see adventurous vocabulary and a range of sentences that we have been practising.

In school we have Mrs Burgin teaching PE this afternoon. I know PE is difficult at home, especially without your school friends as partners.

I have added a link to an Oak Academy PE lesson for something different to try today but if you prefer to use Go Noodle, Joe Wicks or to go out and exercise in your garden if is up to you.

Have a wonderful day. Looking forward to seeing you all. Miss Mountain

Wednesday 10th February 2021

Today you will be continuing with the Build Up of the story. Listen carefully to the ideas that she gives you and make sure you add in a few of your own too. We can’t wait to read your work, please remember to ask your grown-ups to send a picture to us.

Today’s lesson on My Maths is Time Between and you will be starting to work out time differences. Make sure you look carefully at the hands on the clocks, remember the longer hand shows the minutes and the shorter hand the hours.

Urgent help needed for Group A – China. The children in school are struggling to find the information and create the powerpoint. If you are in Group A please have a look at the questions we need some answers too and email the information to class3@stgerardsprimary.org.

Lesson 1:

During the Liturgy of the Word, the readings proclaim the message of God’s love and truth, mercy and forgiveness as it has been told by the People of God in the Old and New Testaments.

On Sunday at Mass there are three readings...

The first reading is usually from the Old Testament.

It is followed by a Responsorial Psalm.

The second reading is usually from one of the letters in the New Testament.

At the end of each reading the reader says, “The Word of the Lord.” And everyone replies, “Thanks be to God.”

Members of the parish family will read these readings, and everyone sits and listens during this time.

Image description
Image description

When the Gospel is proclaimed, there are a few differences to show how important this reading is.

It is read by the priest or the deacon, if there is one present.

Everyone stands and joins in the singing of the Gospel Acclamation.

Often two altar servers with lighted candles will stand either side of the lectern, called the ambo.

The priest or deacon makes the Sign of the Cross on the page of the Gospels, his forehead, lips and heart.

The people also make the Sign of the Cross on their foreheads, lips and heart, in preparation to hear the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We make the Sign of the Cross on our foreheads to show we believe in God’s Word, on our lips to show we try to speak God’s Word to others, and on our hearts to show we love God’s Word and will try to live a good life.

Christians believe that God speaks through the Scriptures and that the Gospel is the Good News. Watch an online Mass and listen and watch carefully as the Gospel is being read.

Q What is the Liturgy of the Word?
Q Why does God speak to us through the Scriptures?
Q Why is it important to listen?
Q Why do you think there is a difference in the way the Gospel is proclaimed and who reads it?
Q What preparation do people make to hear the Gospel? What do you think this means?
Q In what ways is the Gospel ‘Good News’ for the followers of Jesus?

Task: Draw the three small crosses on the template below and give reasons for the actions.

Class 3 RE Task 1 10-02-21.pdf
Task 1 Sheet

Lesson 2

At the end of the Liturgy of the Word, the priest and people together say the Creed, which is a statement of what they believe.  It starts with the words ‘I believe in one God’.  The second part of the Mass now begins. It is called the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Now members of the parish family carry the bread and wine up to the altar from the table at the back of the Church.

The collection is taken and brought up to the altar with the gifts. All these gifts represent the giving of ourselves to God and one another

Image description

Once the priest has received the gifts of bread and wine he stands at the altar and offers these to God and praises God for providing them.

The priest holds up the bread and says:

“Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation for through your
goodness we have received the bread we offer you:
fruit of the earth and work of human hands.
It will become for us the bread of life.”

The parish family join in with this blessing and say:

Blessed be God for ever.”

He holds up the wine and says:

“Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation for through your
goodness we have received the wine we offer you:
fruit of the vine and work of human hands.
It will become our spiritual drink.”

The parish family join in with this blessing and say:

“Blessed be God for ever.”

The cup is called a chalice. The dish, which contains the hosts, is called a paten.

Q What gifts are brought in procession to the altar?
Q Who brings the gifts to the altar?
Q Who receives the gifts?
Q What does the priest do with the gifts?
Q What do the gifts of bread and wine represent?

Task: All these gifts represent the ‘giving of ourselves to God and one another’.  How and why do we live this out in our daily lives? ( e.g. collecting for the local food bank/CAFOD because we are sharing food or what we have with others in need as Jesus showed us.)  Can you link this to any scripture you have read? Use the worksheet below.

Tuesday 9th February 2021

Today is Internet Safety Day – watch the video made by our friend ‘FJ’ (Ann Foxley-Johnson from the Anti Bullying Alliance).  Do you know how to check that the information you have been given is true or false?  Do you know which websites you can trust?

You are all doing really well working out time using different types of clocks. Today you will be continuing with that with My Maths Time 2.
If you are finding it tricky, I have added some pictures of clock faces to remind you what each number stands for, choose your favourite and have it open on the screen as you complete the work.

The other thing to look closely at is the hands on the clock– the minute hand is longer and over the number on the clock, the hour hand is shorter. Remember in digital time the hour always comes first – 9:10 am becomes 10 past 9 when we say it out loud.

Class 3 Clock Selection 09-02-21.pdf
Clock Selection

Yesterday you should have collected lots of ideas for your writing so today you should be ready to write about the first part of the build up. I hope you have magpied a lot of ideas – I know I have. When you have written your paragraphs, please ask your grown ups to photograph them and send them to the class email address. Don’t forget to use the different sentence types to build suspense in your writing.

We missed our chance last week for a catch up, hopefully it will work this afternoon.

Group A China – will log on to talk at 1:10pm – 1:20pm
Group B Wales – will log on to talk at 1:25pm-1:35pm
Group C Denmark – will log on to talk at 1:40pm-1:50pm
Group D Ireland – will log on to talk at 1:55pm-2:05pm

We have lots of information sent about Denmark, Jasmine has created a good powerpoint for her groups about Ireland and Ffion has sent a lovely powerpoint about Wales so a really good start with those groups. Group A may need to do some work to catch up.

Check the questions from two weeks ago and see what other interesting information you think everyone would like to know about the countries.

Remember our topic is a Place to Call Your Own – we are using this research to find out about other communities ready to build a new one.
If you have some time and you want to do some more research about Europe here is a good link:

Monday 8th February 2021

Happy Monday everyone, hope you have had a good weekend.

Don’t forget you can log on to the Mark 10 Mission using the button above for your weekly reflection, a good opportunity to use your prayer areas.

As we have had the music workshops, the children in school have a little bit of catching up to do. Today we will be working on planning our ideas for the exciting part of the story. If you have already completed this at home – have a look at the next lesson, which takes time to look at different types of sentences.

This week we will be refreshing our memories about time. Log on to Mymaths and look for today’s lesson. Remember you must work through the lesson first. If there are any words that you are not sure how to pronounce or understand, please write them down and ask us on the zoom call.

Is there anyone brave enough to send us in a circuit plans for PE? This is your chance to challenge the children in school, can they do 25 star jumps without stopping, how many sit ups do you think they can do? Email through your ideas to class3@stgerardsprimary.org

Friday 5th February 2021

Today we will have just one zoom meeting at 9:30. This is because we will have the zoom ‘Scratch’ music event at 10am. If you found ‘Scratch’ difficult to follow/ access at home you could spend time exploring the website like I demonstrated yesterday afternoon. I think it will help a lot at home if you explore the website first.

Visit the “Music Event” page, where you will find a link to the Scratch Website.

This morning I want you to focus on your Oak Academy lesson. Some children need to finish yesterday’s lesson so take the time this morning to make sure all your literacy is up-to-date.

Again for Maths I want you to log onto My Maths and finish the work that you have started. Try your best to have a go at the Perimeter 1 lesson ready to do more on this next week.

Thursday 4th February 2021

Good morning Class 3, I am so excited about our music event that is happening today at 10 O’Clock. All you need to do is follow the link to the Special Event page above. Let’s give it a go and see how it goes, I am sure we will learn lots of new and exciting coding tricks.

Today we are on lesson 8 of Oak Academy ‘Man on the moon’. We are getting to the more meaty lessons now where we can really showcase our wonderful writing. Please always try your very best and remember to include what we have learnt in all the previous lessons.

If you do get time to get through some maths I have uploaded our first lesson on perimeter onto My Maths. We will also come back to this next week.

In your purple working from home books is a poem for you to read. As we would do at school I want you to take your time reading the text, highlighting any words/phrases that you are no too sure off. Ask an adult at home to help you understand these words/phrases, or you could use a dictionary and google search if you need to. Once you are confident with the poem you can read and answer the comprehension questions.

I look forward to seeing you on zoom

Miss Mountain

Wednesday 3rd February 2021

It really is great to see so many of you through zoom and I hope it is helping you to complete your work. Remember if you are unsure of anything please zoom back in and we will try and help.

This week is Child Mental Health Week – last week we had a look at the book the Huge Bag of Worries and shared how talking about worries can really help and remembering that not all worries belong to you. This week let’s think about things that can make us feel better when we feel sad, angry, lonely or even just a bit fed up. If you want some ideas have a look at the video on our class page last Tuesday.

After doing some really interesting writing yesterday – today we are going to look at spellings. We will be looking at some of the words from last week as part of a test. If you think you need to practise have a quick go before your start the lesson.

Please make sure you are working through the lessons properly. It can be really easy to just do the homework but that will not help you to really understand, especially some of the maths vocabulary. If you are not sure of some of the words, ask a grown up or ‘google’ them and google with give you a definition.

I have set the lesson Angles 2 but please remember to complete Angles 1 first.

In Year 3 the children will focus on the different parts of the Mass and some of the prayers said during Mass.

If possible try to watch an online Mass e.g. St Mary’s Cathedral live streamed every week day at 12.05pm or you can watch a previous day’s recording:

A printed Mass sheet will help children to follow the service (for weekday Masses the Gloria and the Creed are omitted):

Class 3 - Order of Mass 03-02-21.pdf
Order of Mass sheet

Lesson 1:

Talk about the importance of listening: share any experiences of what happens when you didn’t listen.

  • What did you miss when you didn’t listen?
  • What happens when people don’t listen to you?
  • How do you feel when you know you are listened to?

Tell the story of Stone Soup (see below). Talk about the importance of sharing.

Task: Retell the story of Stone Soup. If you listened carefully you should be able to remember lots of details. Share the story with your family.

Lesson 2:

On Sunday, members of the parish family come together to share the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Welcomers greet the people as they come into the church and give them the books they need. The musicians get their music ready. The altar servers and the priest put on their vestments. When the time comes to begin Mass, someone rings a bell, and everyone stands up to sing the Gathering Hymn. The servers then come in followed by the priest. This is the beginning of the Introductory Rite. Rite means the action of God’s people, ceremony or act.

The priest and people make the Sign of the Cross as the priest says, “In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” and the people respond, “Amen!” He welcomes the parish family using the words, “The Lord be with you.” Everyone replies, “And with your spirit.”
This reminds us of the ending of the second letter of Paul to Timothy, this is what he says:

‘The Lord be with your spirit. God’s grace be with you all.’ 2 Timothy 4: 22

  • Why do members of the parish family come together on a Sunday?
  • How do the people prepare for Mass?
  • What happens during the gathering?
  • What do you think Paul’s words to Timothy mean?

Task: Role-play the different parts of the gathering: Procession, the Sign of the Cross and welcome. Using the images from Church’s Story 3 page 54 write a short guide describing and giving reasons for some of the things which happen when people gather to celebrate Mass.

Monday 1st February 2021

Can you believe another weekend has flown by and it is Monday again?

Remember to spend some time with your family watching the Mark 10 Mission – I hope you are all joining in with the singing.

Today we are going to be using the Man on the Moon video to help us write an introduction to our own story. Please make sure you have completed the other lessons before you start this one.

This week will be starting Geometry – a special maths word to describe angles and shapes. I have set you a task through mymaths. Make sure you work through the lesson first.

Keep healthy and get some exercise today. If you haven’t already why don’t you try Marcus Rashford’s PE lesson as a supply teacher?...

Friday 29th January 2021

Today we are going to look at putting our fractions onto a number line. I will go through the method with you today on zoom but if you need more help with this I have added an explanation from the BBC Bitesize website.

In school we really enjoyed our lesson yesterday where we learnt new vocabulary to compare settings and characters. Today is another lesson to help us build up our vocabulary to make our writing amazing. Follow the link below.

We are so excited for show and tell today from Ffion, Oliver S and Darcie.

I have attached the spellings ready for our spelling test next Tuesday.

Thursday 28th January 2021

I just want to start today by saying a big well done to everyone at home for joining our collective worship yesterday and for making such lovely prayer areas at home- what fantastic St Gerard’s girls and boys you are!

In today’s lesson we will continue our work on fractions, looking at equivalent fractions. I have put your lesson on My Maths. I think it would be helpful for you home to get some paper and different coloured at pens and make a fraction wall.

Keep working through the Oak Academy lessons. Here is the link to today’s lesson.

Moving on from our science work last week where we learnt about animals and their skeletons we are now going to find out more about human skeletons and naming our bones. Have a think about the bones we have in our bodies, feel the bones in your arms and legs etc. See if you can complete the sheet below drawing in as many bones as you know about, remembering to use the correct names.

It was wonderful to see so many of you yesterday on zoom, my favourite part was watching you working together in teams, we will definitely do more of that! Keep up the good work at home and a huge thank you to all the grown ups who are helping you and sending in some amazing work – give them a huge hug and a well done from the teachers in school.

You have done amazing well with fractions – well done everyone. Take today to complete all of the tasks you have on mymaths that mention fractions in the title. Remember to work through the lessons before you do the homework.

When you have finished all the homework task on Mymaths then have a go at the worksheets.

Fractions of Amounts

Today you will be working on different types of sentences. It is great to here that you are all enjoying watching the lessons at home just as much as we are here. Make sure you stop the videos when they ask you to so that you can complete your work.

This afternoon we will do a collective worship at our 2:30pm zoom meeting. It would be lovely if you could make a special area in your houses ready. Perhaps you have some a nice cloth, a cross and a candle that could make the space special, think about what we use in school and see what you could use at home. This is a special time to think about the work that you have completed over the Journeys topic, a time to reflect on the new information that you have learnt.

Keep doing what you are doing!

Tuesday 26th January 2021

Happy Tuesday everyone.

I hope you enjoyed the Huge Bag of Worries story - Remember if you have any worries, let them out slowly, talk to someone, do something that will make you feel better. Remember anything talked about in the circle is private to the people in the circle.

This is the video that I am sure we have watched together before:

See if you can find some more ideas about staying mentally healthy.

We loved talking about the video and had lots of questions for the Man on the Moon. I hope you enjoyed it too.

Today is a spelling day, looking at adding the suffix –y. Do you think we should use the words for a spelling test?

In class we are starting to understand working out fractions and finding fractions of amounts. Today lesson will look at adding fractions together. Make sure you have completed all of the other fraction tasks before you try this one. Remember we are here to help you – just re-enter the zoom waiting area and we will work with you.

There are some very interesting lessons about Fieldwork in Geography that you might want to have a look at:

This afternoon I would like you to go back to your research about different countries around the World. Start by thinking of questions you want to know about the country and use google to help you.

Questions I would like you to find the answers to and use in your presentations are:

What is the weather like?
What is the population in your country?
What are the main cities in your country?

How many people live near the city compared to the rest of the country?
Are there any big rivers in your country?  What are their names, how long are they?

What is the landscape like?

For example in England we have a few large hills and mountains in the Lake District area but Wales has the largest mountain.

Is there a desert?

Is there a rainforest?

There is a lot of information to find out and to share with your friends so I am going to put you into 4 teams so that you can talk to each other on zoom to help share the work and information.

Let’s try a short zoom for each group this afternoon:

Group A – 1:10pm-1:20pm

Group B – 1:25pm-1:35pm
Group C - 1:40pm-1:50pm

Group D – 1:55pm – 2:05pm

I will tell you at the 9:30 zoom which group you are in, make sure you all log on!

Monday 25th January 2021

Happy Monday everyone. I hope you have had a lovely weekend and spent some time doing fun things.

Choose a good time today to watch the Mark 10 Mission team – it is a lovely way to start the week. Maybe you could set up a little prayer area in your house.

If you haven’t finished you healthy snack posters – make sure you finish them today. Some of them are looking amazing.
We are going to start another unit using Oak Academy as everyone seems to enjoy them. This one is called the Man on the Moon. Today you will get to watch a video that might look a little familiar – see if you can work out where you know it from. Listen carefully to the lesson and work through the questions, you could make some notes if you want to help you gather ideas.

It is fraction work this week. Make sure you work through the lesson on mymaths before doing the homework section. Think back to when we had the strips of paper folder to show the different fractions that might help you too. Remember we are here to help, log back into the zoom or get your grown-ups to send a message through Facebook or by email.

Make sure you get some exercise. Create a circuit of different exercises in your house or your garden, maybe your grown ups can join in with you too. Have some fun, include some superman moves or bunny hops and definitely use music to help you.

Friday 22nd January 2021

I am really looking forward to seeing you on Zoom this morning, especially because we are starting with our ‘Show and Tell Fridays’.

This week it is Oliver P, Christopher, Freddie and Keshika’s turn to share something from home.

Our learning today…

Today is our ‘big write’. I want you to include everything we have learnt in our previous lessons to make your advertisements the best ever! I want you to really spend time designing and writing your advertisement about your healthy snack.

Image description

Thursday 21st January 2021

Good Morning Class 3.

We are already more than half way through the week and again you are doing so well.  Keep on trying your best- we are so proud of you.

Todays lessons…

Yesterday we worked on our 4 times tables and lots of you managed to challenge yourself with learning your 8 times tables. Today we will continue with this and I have set you work on My Maths on your 3 and 6 times tables.  Also, on YouTube there are some really catchy songs which might also help you to remember your times tables.  It is a good idea while your at home to spend 10 minutes everyday practising your times tables- it really will make a big difference.

We are almost at the end of our unit.  Before we create our own advertisement tomorrow we have one more lesson that will prepare us.

Today we will learn to write complex sentences about our healthy snack.  Follow the link to today’s lesson.

I know with the weather been horrible it is hard to get outside to do some exercise so I have put a link on to YouTube ‘Go Noodle’.  You might want to do a few of these throughout the day.

This week for science I want you to research animal skeletons.  I have attached the sheet below for you to complete. I hope you enjoy researching and then you can share what interesting facts you have found out.

Get ready for our spelling test today at 2:30pm on zoom.

Wednesday 20th January 2021

After working so hard with column subtraction we are going to do something a little easier – we are going to practise the 4 times tables. I have set you some work using Mymaths but remember you can log on to TT rockstars too. The links to both of these sites are at the top of this page...

Today, the children will be recapping on comparatives and superlatives. They will find alliteration, rhyme, adjectives and slogans. The children will write their own slogans for their healthy snack.

Week 3:

Jesus would have gone to the synagogue, every week on the Sabbath (Shabbat). He would have listened to readings from the Scriptures and sung psalms. On three special occasions each year, it is possible he would have journeyed to the Temple in Jerusalem to celebrate the feasts that highlight the Jewish Year. As the people travelled along, they often sang to keep themselves cheerful and pass the time, but each day, at particular times, they sang their prayers in preparation for the feast they were going to celebrate. These ‘song-prayers’ are called psalms and we still sing these Jewish prayers today. Perhaps you can try to remember the next time you say or sing a psalm (at Mass, for instance) that these psalms are the very same prayers that Jesus himself used to pray. There were particular psalms that people used on the way to feasts in Jerusalem, they were called foot psalms or pilgrimage psalms, as they were said as people went on foot to Jerusalem. There were particular psalms for each stage of the journey, looking forward to the moment when they would catch sight of the beautiful Temple as they came over the hill.
One particular psalm expressed the great joy of the pilgrim standing inside the Temple in God’s presence:
‘I rejoiced when I heard them say: “Let us go to God’s house”.
And now our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem.’
Psalm 122

Use God’s Story 3 pages 42-43 for other pilgrimage psalms (See the separate sheet).

  • Are there any songs you sing when you are travelling with the school or your family?
  • How do you think the Jewish people felt when they first saw the Temple in Jerusalem? Remember they didn’t have televisions or cameras in those days, so they would not know what it would look like until they saw it.
  • What do you think the journey was like in Jesus’ time? Why do you think it would help to sing the psalms?

Task: Write your own psalm for a journey to a special place of worship.

We will be continuing with column subtraction. In class a few of the children have been getting a little mixed up because they keep switching the numbers around. Take some time to finish of the introduction to column subtraction or column subtraction lesson and homework.

Check the top tips – take you time and write them out into your book.

Top Tips

  • Write the number sentences out using the expanded method.
  • Always start with the ones column.
  • Remember if you borrow from the next column – put a line through the number and then show what is left above.
  • You are only allowed to borrow one ten or one hundred from the next column.
  • Only borrow if you need to.
  • Check that you have not switched the numbers round.

Remember you can use the blocks to help you – make the top number and then take away the bottom number.

Class 3 - Maths - 19-01-21.pdf
Maths Questions for today

Blocks on the link below:

Image description

Use this to make the top number in the calculation then take away the bottom number – you will need to ‘exchange’ when you need to borrow.
Remember stay positive, take a break then have another go – you can all do this!! We are still here to help.

If you have already finished well done, can you please write us a set of step by step instructions so that everyone knows what to do. Then if you want to have a look at the challenge sheets.

Today you will be designing our healthy snack remembering what we have learnt so far.

We are starting to think about our local area. Hopefully you have been out for a walk near your house. Have a go at drawing a sketch map of your local area.

Oak Academy also have some ideas you could use – watch the lesson if you need some ideas.

It is wonderful to see you all really trying your best. Keep up the good work and please get in touch if you need any extra help.

Mrs Hudson

Monday 18th January 2021

As it is Monday – one of our first jobs is reflection time.  Please get yourselves comfortable, turn out the lights as we do in school.  If you have a grown up with you maybe you could light a candle – enjoy:

We will be continuing with column subtraction. I know this is not easy, but I promise that it really does just take practise. I will go through a few examples during the zoom to help you. I have put the next set of homework on Mymaths for those people who have finished, but make sure you have completed all of the work from Thursday first.

If you were in school, we would use the dienes equipment to help us. I have found on online version that you could try:

A few top tips for you to check if it is not going well:

  • Write the number sentences out using the expanded method.
  • Always start with the ones column.
  • Remember if you borrow from the next column – put a line through the number and then show what is left above.
  • You are only allowed to borrow one ten or one hundred from the next column.
  • Only borrow if you need to.
  • Check that you have not switched the numbers round.

Remember stay positive, take a break then have another go – you can all do this!! We are still here to help.

Today you will be working on making your writing interesting by including interesting adjectives and synonyms. Listen to the instructions carefully and please do not forget to put your capital letters and full stops when you write your sentences.

Monday is another of our PE slots. This week try setting up a fitness circuit in your lounge, bedroom or your garden that you could use every day. Think about the different exercises that you know to work the different parts of your body, especially including your heart.

Watch Joe Wicks (link at the top of the page) if you need to some more ideas. It would be great if you can send us your exercise routines and pictures. We might be able to use them in school too.

Hopefully I will see you all in the Zoom meeting – Mrs Hudson

Thursday 14th January 2021 / Friday 15th January 2021

Just a reminder to everyone at home to try and join in as many ‘Zoom’ meets as possible. Monday- Thursday they are always 9:30 and 2:30 and then Friday 9:30 and 11:30. It is so lovely to still be able to see you and catch up.

Today’s lesson is all about building up our vocabulary. You might want to use your Science sheet from Tuesday to help you with some of the scientific words for today’s lesson too.

We will be moving onto column subtraction today. Please make sure you work through the lesson before you try to do the homework. Just like with column addition, you can use the ‘expanded’ method to help you. This is the first time you have looked at column subtraction so do not worry if you do not understand it at first, we will work through it together.

This week I want you to learn about the special events in the Liturgical calendar- this is what we started last week when we designed our magazine covers. The Liturgical calendar focuses on the Church’s family journey with Jesus through the major events of his life, death and resurrection. I have attached an information sheet for you to read through at home, it would be brilliant if you could discuss the questions with a grown up.

Choose some of the events mentioned in the text you have read to write out a text message to a friend, explaining how the Church family journeys with Jesus throughout the year.

In today’s lesson we will learn more about prepositions of place and time. Follow the link to the lesson on Oak Academy…

I would like it if you could send a picture of the sentences that you write today. Always remember that our sentences should:

  • Be presented well.
  • Start with a capital letter.
  • End with a full stop.

This is very basic but we are getting lots of writing sent to us that don’t include these.

I know Monday and Tuesday we have done lots of work on column addition. For maths today I want you to complete any work that you might not have finished. If you need more work please log back onto your ‘My Maths’ account and try some of the games and see if you have any homework that you haven’t completed yet.

Our topic title for this half term is ‘A Place To Call Our Own’. We have lots to get through this half term and hopefully you will all enjoy the amazing project that we have planned. Below is an introduction into the world's continents with a focus on the UK - I bet lots of you remember our continents song from last year!

Image description

Now, before we start our project work we want you to start thinking about a country that you want to learn about.

Is there a country that you are interested in?

Maybe you have family that live in another country...or maybe you have been on holiday to a country that you loved...?

In School the children are finding out about China and Nigeria.  Have your idea ready to talk about during our zoom at 2:30.

Tuesday 12th January 2021

Well done for all your learning yesterday. I was really impressed with lots of you at home. Keep working hard and remember to always try your best!

Today’s lessons…

I hope you all managed to log onto Oak Academy and access our first lesson. Please get in touch if you have any problems. Today we will be following lesson 2 (Investigating Suffixes –er and –est).

During this lesson we are given new spellings. I have attached a copy of these below so you can start learning them ready for our test.

Today’s science lesson is all about food groups. I have attached an information sheet for you to use to find out about different food groups and how many portions from each different food group we should eat in a day. Once you have read through this information there is a pictogram for you to do to show your learning.

A copy of this has already been put into your ‘Working from home’ books but if you haven’t got this and you don’t have a printer you could make your own pictures and pictogram graph.

Monday 11th January 2021

Hello Class 3

We hope you have had a lovely weekend and managed to get some rest ready to start another week of remote learning.

We are going to try a few new things this week so please let us know how you are managing at home. We would welcome any suggestions from you and your families so please if you have any ideas get in touch.

This week we are going to start our Literacy work using the Oak Academy website. We have chosen this unit because it is going to link with our new Science topic really well.

The children have already worked with a unit on Oak Academy before at school so hopefully this will make them even more confident when working at home.

Another benefit of using these lessons at home is that you can do the lessons when it fits best in in your day. We will direct the children which lesson they will do each day and will also be available during our Zoom’s to support at any time.

I would also appreciate it if you could send us the work that you are doing, even if this is just a couple of times a week. We will always try and respond quickly and give the children some feedback.

In todays lesson we will look at an example of an advert and discuss its PALL - Purpose, Audience and Language. Children will then write their own sentences using a comparative and a superlative. Here is your first lesson…

In Maths today we will be learning how to add in columns. Please follow our lesson on zoom at 9:30 where we will learn how to do this. After our lesson we need you to log onto your MY MATHS account where I have set you an activity called ‘Adding in Columns’. Once you’ve completed your sheet you can see your scores instantly. Let us know if you need more support with this. There is a MY MATHS button at the top of this page.

Today at 2:30 we will do our spelling test. Hopefully this will keep you motivated to learn new spellings at home- thank you for always trying your very best.

As it would be PE today I want you to set aside some time to enjoy some exercise. This can be whatever your favourite sport is, walking, playing football, riding your scooters and bikes. I also recommend Joe Wicks’ on you tube, in school we will be joining in with these a couple times a week. There is a link to Joe's YouTube channel at the top of this page.

Friday 8th January 2021

Children you are all doing so well - at home and at school.

As it is Friday today our zoom meetings are 9:30am and 11:30am. This is our favourite time of the day so please join in if you can.

Today I want to challenge you to use the mystery story ‘Smash and Grab’ to recreate your own version of some of the story. Use the ‘What if not…?’ (Section 5 on the sheet below) to support you write a ‘twist’ in the story. You are only expected to write your own version of a paragraph. I cannot wait to read your writing and see what different ways the original story will change...

Today is PE day! It is really important that we still stay active and healthy during lockdown. I would like you to complete 3 dances from Just Dance. I have put a link onto a ‘You tube’ Just Dance that I would choose. Once you’ve finished take a selfie and sent it to us, let’s see who has the reddest face.

Have a lovely day and remember to get in touch with us if you or your parents need anything.

Wednesday 6th January 2021

Welcome to home learning Class 3. We really hope you are all feeling ok and ready for our new challenge of working in a different way. We think the best thing to do for us is to just get going using new technology and see how it goes for us all. So today, (Wednesday 6th January), we will have a zoom meeting starting at 9:30am. Please get your grown ups to help you log on using the details on our class 3 page. We really cannot wait to see all your lovely, happy faces.

Today we will be reading through ‘Smash and Grab’ focusing on vocabulary. I would like you to write down and research any words/ phrases that you don’t know the meaning of. Have these ready for when we come back to meet at 2:30pm.

When we start a new year, newspapers often share significant events from the past year. I want you to think about the events we celebrate at Church.

Can you design your own magazine front cover highlighting the key events that happen during our Church’s journey through the year, such as Christmas, Easter, Lent, Advent? I would love it if you could send some photos to our class messenger page. Remember to include pictures and text and make them colourful and interesting.
