Friends of St. Gerard's

Friends of St. Gerard's is a group of parents/carers who actively work together to organise out of hours activities for the pupils of St. Gerard's and to organise fundraising events to enhance the education of the children within the school.

2020/2021 has been a year where the world literally stopped. Due to the Covid restrictions we have been very limited with what we were able to do. We had planned lots of things which just couldn’t happen: 2020 leavers social, Easter bunny delivering Easter eggs, Easter Egg hunt, annual Grandparents party, movie nights, ladies night in and not forgetting the annual trip to the Christmas pantomime. We even missed an AGM and our monthly meetings!

However, Covid couldn’t keep us down……..

We have dusted ourselves down and re-established monthly meetings. We also managed some amazing events:

In February 2020 three very willing ‘volunteers’ put their names forward to take the plunge.  Billy Hunt was voted by the children and was very brave in completing the challenge! Thank you to Mrs Ellison for organising and to Mrs Blagden and Miss Jenkinson for putting their names forward.

Biggest thanks to Billy for actually doing it.  The children loved watching the video!

Mrs Baxter dreamed big – and with a little Canadian magic, some Northern elbow grease and some very kind cash donations we created a Christmas wonderland.

December 2020 really saw what we can achieve even in the most difficult times  -  we had some amazing people involved who gave so much of their time and expertise from florists, shed builders, hot chocolate servers to naughty elves.

Thank you to each and every one of you.  The smiles on the children’s faces said it all - it certainly was one to remember!

During the most recent lockdown Liz Ventura and Joanna Poole organised for every child to receive a ‘bag of joy’ as a way of reminding all of the children that they were still part of the St Gerard’s family even if they couldn’t come to school. We had some lovely feedback and the children loved the activities.

Thank you.

Spring 2021 saw Laura Wells and Mrs Jenkinson set up an after school Gardening Club. Some very generous donations made this possible. Thank you to all involved. We can’t wait to see the results!

Our raffle queen Kate Moran has managed to whip up hampers galore for two very successful raffles! Thank you.

Every Friday members take turns to run the Iced lolly and book stall. Every penny counts and these are proving to be a big hit and boosting our funds.

Thank you to each and every member for all of your hard work, to the school and parish community for supporting our events and to the wonderful staff of St. Gerard’s for supporting events and really going the extra mile for our children.
