Religious Education at St. Gerard's
It is recognised at St Gerard’s
School that Religious Education is central to all we
do.
Faith is "caught" as well as "taught" and pupils are helped to develop an understanding of Catholic values and doctrines and they are encouraged to participate in the life of the Parish.
We follow the “Come and See” programme of Religious Education from F2 to Year 6
The Catechism of the Catholic Church addresses the search for meaning in life. God’s initiative in Revelation who comes to meet us and our response of faith.
This pattern guides the structure of the programme and informs the process of each topic, opened up through; Explore, Reveal and Respond.
As part of the programme the children are also taught to value and respect other religious beliefs through in-depth study of other world faiths.
We aim to teach children about loving human relationships developmentally alongside the Science curriculum, and within a framework of Religious Education.

THE MARK 10 MISSION
The Mark 10 Mission, in partnership with The Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, is a brand new project for Catholic primary schools in England. As whole school assemblies and collective worship will no longer be able to take place, this site brings virtual content to engage school children in the faith, from the comfort of the classroom.
COME AND SEE RE
A Catholic Primary Religious Education programme for Foundation and Key Stages 1 and 2. This easy to use teacher-friendly material has been written by a group of experienced diocesan advisors. It is based on the theological foundations of the Second Vatican Council, the Catholic Catechism and the revised RE Curriculum Directory and includes the Catholic attainment levels.

Following our whole school assembly all about Mission Together, the children took home money boxes to fill with donations.
Each year the children in Key Stage One perfor the Nativity for parents, carers and friends of the school. It is a popular event - and for many is one of the highlights of the year!
When our children go on residential, one of the most important parts is our "Retreat Day" - a chance to reconnect with God and each other.
We are proud of the close links we have with the parish. We often hold coffee mornings in school and welcome visitors from our local community.
Our Parish Priest, Father Desmond Sexton is a regular visitor to school. Here he is talking to the children about his life as a priest, and what is meant by the word "vocation".
We visit church each week to celebrate Mass. Our children enjoy reading and taking an active part in the service.
