Class 5 - a snapshot into school life of Year 5 and Year 6

Welcome to Class Five

We are a mixed Year 5 and 6 class. Miss Jenkinson is our teacher and Mrs Hanley is the teaching assistant. We are also very lucky to have Miss Frost who delivers intervention groups every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons and Mrs Taylor who volunteers and helps out in class on a Tuesday.

PE days are Monday (indoor) and Friday (outdoor).

Important Information

TT Rockstars

It is important your child continues to practice times tables up to 12x12! By year 4 children should be able to fluently recall times tables facts under 6 seconds. This is a skill that children should continue to practice in Year 5/6.

SPAG Club

At St Gerard's, we conduct a SPAG Club every Monday after school. The primary aim of this initiative is to enhance students' knowledge and foster a deep appreciation for spelling, punctuation, and grammar (SPAG) as well as literacy. We extend a warm invitation to parents and carers to actively participate in these sessions. By joining us, we can collectively prepare for SATs and contribute to our children's educational success.

Reading

In order to monitor and promote reading comprehension, reading records will be assessed on a weekly basis, specifically on Wednesdays. Regular assessment enables educators to evaluate the progress of students' reading abilities, identify areas where additional support may be needed, and provide timely feedback. Students are advised to regularly maintain their reading records, ensuring they accurately capture the details of books read, including key insights and reflections.

Homework

Homework is distributed every Wednesday and must be submitted by Monday. If your child requires assistance with their homework, please seek guidance from Miss Jenkinson or Mrs Hanley. Alternatively, we are available during school hours to provide support with completing the homework.
